Artist in Residence for 11:11:08
Dimension Gallery Austin, TX 78702
June 7-10, 2017
'Roheline' was originally a collaboration piece directed by Taryn Lavery of BLiPSWiTCH, Jennifer Sherburn and the performers. Embracing the cacophony of sounds ever-present at the venue, they worked together to mold and form a sprawling new performance piece at the Dimension Gallery using the industrial setting and sculptural art as inspiration. Roheline is being considered for further development by Taryn and her collaborators/ co-founders of BLiPSWiTCH.
My artistry and choreography is informed by my desire to fuse my classical background with a passion to revitalize modern dance for broader audiences, extracting a new form of contemporary performance. Co-directing BLiPSWiTCH, along with Alex Miller, and adjunct co-director Lucy Wilson (L.A.), has allowed me to expand my artistry further through our engagement with other mediums, striving for creation where all artists are given a voice, and inform one another to support a final work.
Should "Roheline" be selected for further development, I plan to involve BLiPSWiTCH in a broader sense by working with fellow co-founders Alex Miller and Lucy Wilson to expand on preexisting choreographic ideas. Also, since one of the tenants of BLiPSWiTCH is collaboration, we would bring in at least one artist (outside of the dance medium) to create with us. My primary hope is that we are able to involve a live sound score, as that would be an element not present in the original work. Having a producer and budget from Jennifer Sherburn/Eleven Eleven, is an exciting prospect that would also allow us the freedom to focus less upon the logistics of funding acquisition and even more on the artistic process.
